Cleveland Irons

  • Cleveland Golf will soon be announcing their latest addition to the Tour Action irons family with the TA-7. The new irons are game improvement focused and feature a new "micro-cavity" design that alters the top of the blade by a series of small cavities in line making the club a more solid structure. The club's center of gravity is lowered and more weight is moved to the perimeter of the head increasing the club's forgiveness. Cleveland's Vibration Absorbing System (VAS) is also incorporated as in other Tour Action models. Suggested retail pricing has not yet been announced.

Rossa Putters

  • TaylorMade-Adidias Golf announced recently plans to create a new putter company called Rossa. The name means red in Italian. The new putters will feature two red oval inserts on each side of the club head separately by a thin sheet of metal. Feel and sound is varied throughout the planned 24 models by altering the thickness of the inserts and metal. Suggested retail pricing has been set at $239 (forged 1018 carbon steel) and $139 (304 stainless steel).

Louisville Smart 2 Driver and Fairway Woods

  • Louisville Golf unveiled its latest equipment with the introduction of the Smart 2 Persimmon Driver and matching fairway woods. The new driver is made from persimmon wood and features a Density Balancing Energy Sleeve which is an aluminum sleeve that replaces the traditional whipping on wood clubs. The sleeve allows for the club's center of gravity to be lowered and a deeper face design to be developed. The Smart 2 will replace the original Smart driver in Louisville's lineup. Suggested retail pricing for the driver has been set at $365 (steel) and $395 (graphite) for the Mahogany finish and $395 (steel) and $425 (graphite) in the Blonde finish. Additionally, Smart 2 fairway woods are available with pricing set at $265 (steel) and $295 (graphite) for the Mahogany finish and $295 (steel) and $325 (graphite) for the Blonde finish.

Feel Designer Wedges

  • Feel Golf recently introduced a new twist to their line of wedges. The Designer wedges are available are available in the metallic colors of yellow, blue, red, green that are applied by a special process and feature a proprietary Gun Metal finish on the sole and face. Each club comes with a soft designer headcover. Internet pricing is set at $149 each.

Pelz Wedges

  • Orlimar announced that they have entered a joint venture with note short game guru Dave Pelz to manufacture and distribute Pelz designed wedges. Suggested retail pricing and availabilty will be announced at the 2002 PGA Merchandise Show next month.

Ping Putters

  • Ping Golf recently announced three new putters. The Pengyo putter features a continuous curve on the flange, a slanted flat top hosel, and a single sight line on the top rail. The radius of the curve keeps the center of gravity low providing a more consistent roll. Available in a stainless steel model at $95 and an Isopur 2 model featuring tungsten weights in the heel and toe at $135. The VSL putter features a flared tip hosel with minimal offset. There are strategically placed ridges on the flange that cast shadows on the flange creating a "virtual" sight line. Available in a stainless steel model at $95 and an Isopur 2 model featuring tungsten weights in the heel and toe at $135. The lil'b putter features a center-shafted head and mid-length shaft at 41 inches. Suggested retail pricing set at $120. All models will be available within the next few weeks.

Hogan Apex Edge Pro Irons

  • Spalding Sports Worldwide recently announced the latest iron in the Hogan Apex family, the Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro. The Apex Edge Pro will replace the Apex Plus model and feature the game improvement benefits of the Apex Edge but with a more traditional shape and profile. The irons are forged from a single piece of 1025 carbon steel and feature a modified muscle-back cavity. Suggested retail pricing for 3-PW with steel shafts is $925 and 3-PW with graphite shafts is $1,125. Availability set for mid February 2002.

MacGregor VIP Irons

  • MacGregor Golf, one of the oldest names in golf, is also going back to its roots with the introduction of two new forged irons. The Tourney VIP 1025M is a muscleback design (i.e. blade) that was designed after its VIP'67 irons and the Tourney VIP 1025C is a cavity back design. Both models incorporate V-Foil technology, an acronym for Vectored Force-of-Impact Localization. The design features a thin bar that protrudes from the back of both muscle-back and cavity-back forgings. Distributes more of the club's mass in line with the point of impact, and it moves the mass farther away from the clubface. Said to increase power, forgiveness and lift, while reducing clubhead rotation. Suggested retail pricing for the 1025M is $899 (3-PW, steel). The 1025C is $799 (3-PW, steel), $949 (3-PW, graphite). Availability set for mid February 2002.

King Cobra Drivers

  • Cobra Golf, going back to the original King Cobra metal wood name, introduces of the next generation of the King Cobra golf club line, commencing with its new King Cobra SS 350 driver series. SS stands for Sweet Spot. The new drivers feature a 350 cc size head, wide and deep face, and titanium insert surrounded by an even thinner titanium ring to generate the maximum allowable energy transfer (coefficient of restitution - COR of .825) over a greater effective hitting area. The result is more distance and greater forgiveness. An internal weight pad positioned low and back directly in line with the hosel axis to promote a higher, more consistent trajectory, and forgiveness on off-center hits due to its lower center of gravity. Available in four lofts (7.5º, 9.0º, 10.5º, 12.0º) in both right-hand and left-hand options. Additionally available with offset in senior (11.0º) and women's specifications (13.5º). Suggested retail pricing set at $369 each. Availability set for February 2002 after introduction at PGA Merchandise Show.

Titleist Pro V1 Practice

  • The Titleist Pro V1 Practice golf balls are now available. Manufacturers often package and market golf balls with cosmetic paint blemishes as "practice" golf balls. Same performance as the Pro V1. Have seen the ProV1 Practice golf ball priced as low as $34.95 per dozen.

Odyssey Two-Ball Putter

  • Odyssey, owned by Callaway Golf, introduced the White Hot 2-ball putter. The putter features two large white golf ball sized spheres on the back of the putter to aid with alignment. This is a modern version of a putter designed by noted short game teacher Dave Pelz that featured an alignment aid consisting of three spheres in a line. This putter was deemed illegal due to the equipment rule that states "The distance from the heel to the toe of the clubhead shall be greater than the distance from the face to the back". Pricing on the new Odyssey putter not yet announced with availability set for late January 2002.

Callaway Big Bertha Irons

  • Callaway Golf continues its announcements for new products in 2002 with the introduction of the latest Big Bertha irons. The original irons were introduced in 1994 and featured thick a topline and generous offset. Callaway calls the update "retro technology". Essentially they have incorporated the thin face design to the originals and slightly refined the shape. The original irons were on the ugly side but were among the most forgiving irons ever made. Suggested retail pricing is not yet available with availability expected in February 2002.

Callaway Steelhead III

  • Callaway Golf continues its announcements for new products in 2002 with the introduction of the Big Bertha Steelhead III woods. The Steelhead was first introduced in 1998 and the latest version features and all steel construction, thinner clubface, and larger deeper face. Internal weighting controlled through Variable Weight Chip allows precise placement of weight in head to aid in placement of center of gravity in club. Available in drivers of various lofts and fairway woods. Suggested retail pricing is $315 (graphite) and $225 (steel) with availability set for February 2002.

Callaway C4 Driver

  • Callaway Golf recently announced a radical departure to the past few years trends in drivers. Callaway heads in a new direction with the introduction of the C4 Driver. The new driver head is made entirely of graphite. C4 stands for Compression Cured Carbon Composite. 20 grams lighter than most driver heads. Equates to increased clubhead speed and increased distance. The driver is 360 cc in size, the largest that Callaway has ever produced. Features a graphite body, crown, and face with a small aluminum sole and oversize .4" diameter tip graphite shaft. Yonex produced an all graphite driver back in the United States in 1990; the ADX 200. Suggested retail pricing is $540 with availability set for late January 2002.

Orlimar hipSteel Irons

  • Orlimar late in the summer quietly introduced the hipSteel Reverse Size (RS) Irons. The new irons incorporate the same HIP process utilized on their woods. The irons feature larger face areas that get progressively smaller from long irons to the wedges. The irons will be offered in 4 through gap wedge with suggested retail pricing set at $599 for steel and $799 for graphite. also available for individual purchase are a 3-iron, sand wedge, and lob wedge.

Precept Tour Premium 2-EZ Utility Wood

  • Precept Golf extends the Tour Premium lineup with the Tour Premium 2-EZ utility wood. Billed as a replacement for the 2-iron, the club is available in 18 degrees of loft and a length of 41”. A classic sole profile and design for greater forgiveness and maximum performance on mis-hits. The shaft features a reinforced tip said to provide stability through impact. The club features a 25 gram tungsten weight in the trailing edge of the club to allow precise place of the club's center of gravity. Suggested retial price has been set at $250 each.

Wilson Deep Red Fairway Woods

  • Orlimar has updated their site to include product information on the new hipSteel line of woods and irons. recently announced that the new TP Tour and Distance Plus golf balls will replace its original Inergel line. The TP Tour features a multilayer three piece design with low compression rating and Trithane cover retailing at $34.99 per dozen. The Distance Plus features a two piece design with thin Surlyn cover and large solid core retailing at $27.99 per dozen.

Liquidmetal PJ Driver

  • Liquidmetal Golf announced the PJ Driver featuring a 330 cc head size. The new driver is named after the inventor of the proprietary liquidmetal alloy, Bill Johnson. The driver features a 46 inch graphite shaft made by Graphite Design for Liquidmetal Golf and comes available in lofts of 10 and 11 degrees. Suggested retail pricing is set at $399 and will be available in mid October.

TaylorMade TPi Putters

  • TaylorMade has launched a new putter series to replace the Nubbins line called the TPi. The putters feature extreme perimeter weighting and heavy head weights of 340 grams. The putter also features two polymer inserts with one in the face and one in the cavity with a 1 millimeter steel membrane in between. According to TaylorMade, this along with a black nickel plating provides improved energy transfer with nice sound feedback and soft feel. Available models include 4 blade styles, 2 wide-sole/quarter-mallet styles and 2 left-handed models. Availability is November with a suggested tetail price of $120.

Maxfli Noodle

  • Maxfli Golf has been test marketing a new golf ball expected to compete with the Lady Precept called the Maxfli Noodle. The golf ball has been released in a few selected cities. The slogan of the new ball is that it is Long and Soft (just like a noodle). The golf ball features a solid core which gives it distance and a very low compression rating which gives it the soft feel. Compression is the amount of deflection that the golf ball undergoes at impact. The golf balls comes in a very patriotic red, white, and blue packaging (this was done prior to the events of September 11th. Targeted toward golfers of all abilities that are looking for additional distance at a value price. Street price as low as $19 per dozen.

Carbite Putters

  • Carbite Golf introduced some additions to their Z Series line of putters. Four new models feature the original Polar Balanced technology which moves much of the club's weight to the heel and toe providing a very stable and forgiving head. The insert for these putters feature Carbite's Brass Balls technology which incorporates 23,000 tiny brass balls in a polymer substrate providing a better roll. The Brass Balls technology was first introduced earlier this year in the Cap Series putter line. Suggested retail price is $129 each with availability set for later this month.

Strata Golf Balls

  • Spalding Sports Worldwide rounded out the Strata line of golf balls with the introduction of the Strata Tour Professional and the Strata Professional Control. These two golf balls combined with the recently introduced Strata Tour Ultimate 2 make up the Strata 2002 lineup. The Tour Professional retails at $44 per dozen and is an improved version of the original with larger core and thinner cover while the Professional Control retails at $39 per dozen and features a co-terthane cover and soft core. Both will be available later this month.

Nike Golf Balls

  • Nike Golf recently introduced the Nike Precision Double C golf balls. The new golf balls will be available in two models; the Double C Tour and the Double C Distance. Targeted toward low to mid level handicap golfers, both models feature ionomer double covers and a solid core. Suggested retail price is $35 per dozen with availability set for February 2001.   • Nike Golf also introduced the Nike Tour Accuracy DD golf ball. Developed for Nike Tour Staff member David Duval, the Tour Accuracy DD features a multi-layer design with an injection molded urethane cover and a solid core. A combination of lower spin rate and higher launch angle charateristics make this model the longest in the Tour Accuracy golf ball family. Suggested retail price is $54 per dozen with availability set for February 2001.

Wilson Deep Red Driver and Irons

  • Wilson Golf recently announced the Deep Red driver and irons. The Deep Red Driver features a 365cc head versus the original Deep Red driver at 305cc. Suggested retail pricing set at $449 in graphite available in lofts of 7.5, 9, 10.5, and 12 degrees. The Deep Red irons feature a cavity back design with "Fluid Feel Urethane Insert" in the cavity to absorb vibrations. The head design incorporates a more rounded toe and thinner top line than the Fat Shaft models while retaining a large tip at .5". Suggested retail pricing set at $750 (steel shafts) and $949 (graphite shafts) available in October 2001.

Callaway Golf Balls

  • Callaway recently announced the HX golf balls. The HX (pronounced "hex") features hexagon-shaped dimples. It resembles a golf ball released by Uniroyal in the early 70's called the "Plus Six". Callaway claims that this provides improved aerodynamic flight (increased distance and more stable ball flight in windy conditions) as a result of the hexagon-shaped dimples having rounded edges which eliminates the flat area between round dimples on traditional golf balls. Two models: HX-Red (firmer) and HX-Blue (softer). Availability is March 2002 with suggested retail pricing of $58 per dozen.
  • Callaway also announced that their Rule 35 golf ball line has been replaced by the CTU 30. The "30" refers to the thickness of the cover, reportedly the thinnest cover on the market at 0.030". Two models: CTU-Red (firmer) and CTU-Blue (softer). The new models are essentially the same as the original Rule 35 golf balls with the CTU 30 Blue model having a thinner cover than its predecessor translating into increased distance and slightly less backspin. Availability is set for later this fall with suggested retail pricing of $50 per dozen.

Adams Ultimate GT Irons

  • Adams Golf recently announced the Tight Lies Ultimate GT irons. This iron is a follow-on to last year's Tight Lies GT models featuring graphite tipped steel shafts said to provide the accuracy and consistency of steel and the softness and feel of graphite. The long irons have more offset and a lower center of gravity to help get the ball in the air easier and provide maximum forgiveness while the short irons have less offset and a higher center of gravity for controlled trajectory and greater workability. Expect availability late November 2001 with suggested retail pricing for 3-PW set at $799.99.

  • Feel Golf recently introduced the Pro-Am series of golf equipment. The series comes as a complete set with 16-pieces including woods, irons, putter and stand bag. The entire set features a black finish with contrasting white text. The driver features a 300cc titanium head and the irons feature a cavity back design. An Anser-style insert putter is inlcuded as well. Suggested retail pricing is $599 for complete set.

Callaway VFT Irons

  • Callaway recently announced the Hawk Eye VFT Tungsten Injected Titanium irons for mid to high handicap golfers. The new irons feature an extremely low of gravity allowing golfers to get the ball in the air easily. This model replaces the Hawk Eye Tungsten Injected Titanium irons released in 2000 but with variable face thickness technology and new graphite shafts that feature a progressive weighting system (lighter long irons and heavier short irons). Suggested retail price is $1,640 (street price around $1,300) in graphite and $1,400 (street price around $1,100) in steel. Available September 2001.

Ping TiSI Tec Driver

  • Ping introduces the TiSI Tec driver. It is the first driver from Ping since 1998. The driver's head is the same size as the original TiSI at 323cc. The new model includes reconfigured internal weighting and center of gravity movement to produce more boring trajectory; new sole design; hosel configuration that makes it easier to produce a draw; new color of dark gray slate; and dynamic loft (at impact) markings as opposed to static loft (at rest). Suggested retail price is $550 (street price around $450) in graphite with availability set for Nov 2001.

  • Precept introduces a new forged iron called the Tour Premium CB. The cavity back irons feature offset, perimeter weighting, and are forged from 1025 mild carbon steel.   • Mizuno is introducing three new irons later this fall: MX-20; forged iron featuring a Dual T-Zoid Power Bar for additional forgiveness (3-PW, MSRP $992/steel, $1,280/graphite), MX-11; cast game improvement iron featuring 2 piece T-Zoid Hollow technology (3-PW, MSRP $992/steel, $1,280/graphite), FLI-HI; utility long irons also incorporating the T-Zoid Hollow technology (each, MSRP $184/steel, $226/graphite).
  • Titleist 822OS and 762 Irons
    Titleist will unveil two new irons this October. 822OS; game improvement cast iron featuring oversize design similar to the Oversize+ Black but with a more contemporary look; 762; cast cavity back reminiscent of the older 962 and original DCI-Black models.
  • Never Compromise Wedge
    Never Compromise expects to announce their first entry into the wedge category this month, the Tour 56° Wedge. Features trademarked black-gray-black finish.

  • Tour Edge introduced the J-Series fairway woods that will complement their Bazooka J-Series driver. Taylor Made 200 Steel and Retro Woods

Taylor Made announces the 200 Steel line of woods and the Retro fairway woods. The 200 Steel line up offers metal wood counterparts to the 300 Series titanium woods. A driver is available in the line that boasts a large 275cc head. MSRP is $249/steel and $329/graphite available later this fall. The Retro line will feature the reintroduction of the Tour Spoon (13°) and two Raylor models (16°, 19°). MSRP is $329 with availability set for November.

  • UniSport USA plans recently announced plans to introduce two new golf balls under the Penn brand later this fall. The Championship VX and LX will have a suggested retail price of $21.99 per 15-pack.

Callaway Metal Injection Molding Driver

  • Callaway made mention of their next driver to be unvieled in 2002. The driver will be made from titanium using a new manufacturing process that includes Metal Injection Molding technology. This new technology starts with powdered metals that is subjected to a pressuring process which molds the metal into a single part. This new process would allow designs that are stronger than heads produced with traditional manufacturing methods.

Titleist Pro Titanium 975J Driver

  • Titleist expands its driver linup with the introduction of the Pro Titanium 975J. The new driver features a head volume of 312cc compared to its predecessor, the 975D, with a volume of 260cc. The "J" will be available in seven lofts ranging from 6.5º to 12.5º. The line will also include four left-hand drivers ranging from 7.5º to 10.5º. Shipping will begin on May 25, 2001 with a suggested retail price of $540.

  • Spalding Sports Worldwide is testing a new prototype driver to be released under the Ben Hogan brand name and a new golf ball addition to the Strata line. Both are currently being tested by U.S. and European touring professionals.

The Deep Red Driver features a ProLite .480 tip diameter Fat Shaft (developed by Grafalloy) and a titanium clubhead. The driver's center of gravity is said to be low and back in the club creating a large swee spot. Suggested retail price $399. The iWound golf ball features a solid lattice structure over the core that is said to provide a soft feel with great spin and distance. Suggested retail $34.99 per dozen.
