Orlimar hipTi Driver

  • Orlimar plans to unveil its new driver called the "hipTi" at the PGA Merchandise Show next month. The drivers are made from a titanium alloy from Russia and the design reportedly offers a better ball flight and control. Models available include an 8° (300cc head,45" shaft), 9.5° (315cc head,45.25" shaft), and a 10.5 ° (340cc,45.5" shaft). Suggested retail pricing will be $399 each.

Titleist Pro V1 Golf Ball

  • Titleist annouced today that they will begin initial limited shipments of the new Pro V1 golf ball immediately in Sun Belt locations. The official launch of the ball will occur at the PGA Merchandise Show from January 26-29 in Orlando, with worldwide shipments in March 2001. Suggested retail pricing for the new Pro V1 will be $54 per dozen, same as the Titleist Professional and Tour Prestige models.

Titleist 975J Driver

  • Titleist is making plans to release a new driver in 2001. The 975J ("J" for jumbo) will be an oversized version of the popular 975D driver. The new driver will be 300cc in size and be cosmetically similar to its smaller sibling. Dottie Pepper recently used the driver to win the LPGA's Arch Wireless Championship.

Hogan Apex Edge Irons

  • Spalding recently annouced their latest addition to the Hogan iron family. The Hogan Apex Edge is an oversized model featuring a undercut cavity muscleback design for lower center of gravity and improved playability. The Apex Edge is of two piece construction with a forged face insert and forged 1030 carbon steel body. The club also features a progressive offset and thicker topline appealing to the middle to higher handicap golfer while maintaining a more traditional look. Suggested retail pricing is set at $928 (3-PW in steel) and $1,128 (3-PW in graphite). Availability is set for February following the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida

Orlimar TriMetal Tour Drivers

  • Orlimar plans to ship the new 270 cc TriMetal Tour stainless steel driver in February 2001 with a suggested retail of $239. Also additional information on the new Scoring iorns and TriMetal Ti woods.

Nike Tour Accuracy TW

  • Nike Golf is giving away 100 sleeves of the exact ball that Tiger Woods plays. Known as the Tour Accuracy TW, the ball's cover and core is about five percent harder than the original Tour Accuracy to compensate for Tiger's high clubhead speed. Availability is set for January at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida Orlimar Scoring Irons and TriMetal Ti Woods
  • Orlimar's new irons feature a progressive size and cavity made from 302 stainless steel for a feel of forgings. The new woods feature a titanium alloy in three lofts and distinct sizes: 8.5 degree (300 cc), 9.5 degree (315 cc), and 10.5 (325 cc).
  • Odyssey TriHot Putters
  • Odyssey Golf announces three new models featuring the "Rule 35" golf ball insert from the popular White Hot line and the tungsten weighting found originally in the TriForce line. Suggested retail pricing set at $315.

Spalding Strata Golf Balls

  • Spalding announces three new Strata golf ball models, Professional Distance (replaces Distance), Professional Balata (replaces ML Balata), and a third yet to be named model model that Spalding claims "the technology is the first of its kind".
    Golfsmith Snakes Eyes and Lynx Non-Conforming Drivers?
  • Golfsmith is considering offering non-conforming drivers under the Snake Eyes and Lynx brand names.
    Taylor Made Non-Conforming 300 Series Drivers
  • Taylor Made makes decision to sell non-conforming versions of new 300 series drivers for markets outside of North America.
    Callaway Contact and Titleist Pro V2 392 Golf Balls
  • New model golf balls showing up on the Fall 2000 USGA Conforming Golf Ball list.

Callaway VFT and ERC II Drivers

  • Callaway announces their driver lineup for 2001. Included are the "USGA conforming" Hawk Eye VFT cast titanium driver (suggested retail price, $500 ) and the "USGA non-conforming" ERC II forged titanium driver (suggested retail price $625). The announcement of the ERC II driver represents Callaway's decision to sell a non-conforming driver in the United States. The original ERC driver has been available in Japan, Asia, and Europe in early 2000. Expect limited availability of the new drivers as early as January 2001.

Nike Prototype Irons

  • Nike Golf has developed some prototype irons to be tested on tour this weekend. The forged cavity back irons were designed by noted club designer Tom Stites. Two models have ben developed, one with a full cavity and one with a half cavity.

    Nike Golf Equipment
  • September 22, 2000 issue of Golf World reports that Nike plans to offer putters and wedges as early as 2001. Nike has commissioned master putter craftsmen Bob Bettanardi and Kevin Burns to develop several putters.
